A tribute to Marcus Philip Cutts - one of the great euphonium players - 8th March 1927 to 5th September 2007.
The Poynton RBL Concert Band were privileged to have one the finest euphonium players, join and support us, after a successful career playing in top class bands.
He was noticed while playing in Ferodo Works Band and joined the Fairey Band in 1957 to be their principal euphonium player, which won a hat-trick of
British Open victories in 191/62/63 and also in 1965, when the band achieved the “double” by winning the National Championships of Great Britain.

After leaving Fairey he moved to CWS (Manchester) Band and continued to perform with the Halle Orchestra as well as
going on to conduct the BT and Glossop Bands, he also performed in numerous pit orchestras playing both tuba and
trombone and finally playing with a RBL band, the Poynton Royal British Legion Concert Band.
Marcus was a fine player, right up to the end, his playing and quality shone through the band till the end.
His phrasing of music and pure skill of his instruments (he also played the trombone) were inspirational.
Right to the end of his life, after undergoing treatment and serious surgery, his main aim was to still carry on playing.
He will be sadly missed by all of us, his family and friends and all of us in the band, what a lovely chap he was.
