Ready to step in as Musical Director
January 2005, Neil Fraser-Standeven has taken up the challenge to be the new
Musical Director and the band is more than happy to support him in his new role
director of The Poynton RBL Concert Band.
Neil has a military musical background, joining the Royal Armoured Corps at the age of 15,
rising to the rank of Trumpet Major. He then went on to the Royal Hussars Prince of Wales Own and
the 14/20 King's Hussars, where he attained the rank of Band Sergeant Major.
On retiring from HM Forces after 22 years service, Neil joined the TA Band of The Gloucester Hussars
as Band Sergeant Major and successfully led that Band through a Kneller-Hall inspection.
Unfortunately in the short time Neill was conducting the band, he had already had a serious cancer operation,
but thinking only of music and the future, he kept everyone busy, organising the music, playing, rehearsing.
His illness took over his life, was confined to a wheelchair and later passed away - we all will miss him.
