1983 Charles Oldfield took over as musical director.
 
1984 Discussion to change the name of the band from The Centre Concert Band to
  The Poynton Royal British Legion Concert Band was adopted. About this time Charles Oldfield
  introduced Double Reeds (Oboe and Bassoon).
 
1987 The band entered its first competition at St. Helens Regional Competition on the 3red May, 1987
  and was awarded the 1987 Merit Award Shield.
 
1989 Additions to the bands appearance – band pennants and a band notice board, courtesy of
  Dorothy Livesey – brought the band closer to the British Legion.
 
1991 Charles Oldfield retired and was given a Christmas presentation at the Sale Golf Club
