John Kilshaw had the idea of forming a military band with four other people, Mr. Ross Livie
(to take the position of musical director), Mr. H. Thomas, Mrs. K Thomas and Mr. Burgess,
they arranged a meeting with Mr. E. Brock (secretary of the Social Centre, Poynton) on the
19th June, 1974, Invitations for an Inaugural Meeting on the Wednesday, 18th September, 1974 –
were sent around the Poynton community and interested parties with a view to forming a
Military Band under the musical directorship of Mr. Ross Livie (an Ex-Royal Marine musician).
Thirty-six people turned up with instruments and the band was on it's way – the band's first
official concert was at the Poynton Social Centre on the 11th December, 1974, with the support of
the local press and MP for Maccelsfield, Mr. Nicholas Winteron, many successful concerts followed.
